Chevrolet delivered the very first copies of the 2017 Bolt to customers today. The long-range EV is currently in transit to dealerships in California and Oregon.
The rollout began in the San Francisco Bay area, where the first three customers took delivery of their new 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EVs. Once the Bolt has made its way through California and Oregon, additional markets in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic States, including New York, Massachusetts, and Virginia, will begin receiving Bolts later this winter. By the middle of 2017, the Bolt will be available at select dealerships across the country.
Priced at $37,495 before tax credits, the Bolt comes standard with a 10.2-inch touchscreen, OnStar with 4G LTE Wi-Fi, SiriusXM satellite radio capability, six-way manually adjustable front seats, keyless entry and push-button start, and a Teen Driver safety feature. Premier models add leather-appointed seats, front and rear heated seats, a heated steering wheel, surround camera system, and other features. The Chevrolet Bolt was named the 2017 Motor Trend Car of the Year.
According to EPA ratings, the Bolt can travel 238 miles on a full charge, although we were able to drive a greater distance in our Range Test. Affordable and capable of longer drives, the Bolt is the only EV of its kind on the market right now, but other competitors are expected to enter the fray. The Tesla Model 3 enters production in 2017, and an upcoming next-gen Nissan Leaf is expected to boost range to more than 200 miles. Ford also said it is working on a long-range EV, and Hyundai has confirmed that it will launch an electric SUV with a 200-mile range.
